8. Drive out fear, so that everyone may work effectively...
Actually, this is a critical point.
I'm not sure Deming meant it in the way I'm going to mean it and he has
passed away, so I can't ask him. Yet, I sense were going down the
same if not parallel paths here.
When you have fear, you limit the amount
of higher needs that you spend time on, therefore your ability to deal
with complexity is limited by fear.
When we examine the movement from 1st tier
to 2nd tier or from conventional to post conventional being, one of the
first things that disappears is the hold that fear has on us. It
doesn't mean we don't have fear, it just means that it doesn't have us.
What has us is critical to understand
because this is what we project in terms of needing to resolve the
tension it creates. Usually what has is related to the fear of
something.
Driving out fear, or at least gaining an
objective relationship with it is key to moving into higher levels of
being. Those levels of being are required to deal with complexity,
hypercompetition, innovation, etc.
In order to drive
out fear, or at least begin to move it to a objective rather
than its subjective hold on us, we need to understand our desires--those
unconscious intents that are an emergent property from all the simple
rules of genetic and memetic conditioning over time.
